I bought this sander over two years ago, at a time when I needed a new one in a hurry and didn't have a lot to spend. I thought it would be a "throw-away" that wouldn't last. I was wrong! This little sander is comfortable in my hand and well built. All this time, and many projects later it still runs like new. I doubt I would be happier with the sanders costing twice as much!
UPDATE: It has now been 5 years since I bought this sander and it is still going strong. I have not had any of the problems mentioned in the other reviews. My sander doesn't vibrate excessively, my housing/handle didn't crack apart, and it has plenty of power (albeit not as much power as a sander costing 2-3 times as much). - By Scott Pointon VINE VOICE
I am a Black & Decker fan and have owned quite a few hand tools of theirs. I ordered this sander to replace a much more expensive model when the pad on that one wore out. Replacing pads, even on this sander, costs more than purchasing this sander. Within the first two days of using this sander the pad developed a dent from sanding uneven surfaces. This dent will not come out and makes for problematic sanding now. The replacement price for the pad is $27 plus shipping. Compare that to the price for a new sander. Be careful, if you try to use this particular product for edge smoothing you will end up with a damaged and marginally useful tool. - By G. Mack
