Great product! I received my drill just in time for the meat of my bedroom and bath addition. In a few short weeks I've put this drill to the test, charging and recharging the batteries for 12 hour+ days. I've used it for sheet rocking, extensive hole drilling, under the house work and everything else. It's been roughed up and still drills like a charm. I especially like the light weight. If you're going to do a lot (or even a little) work with your drill - light weight is the way to go. I've given the light minimal use but it seems to work just fine.
I know there's higher end drills with more torque and speed on the market but for a much higher price tag. If your a do-it-yourselfer, this is the drill; plenty of torque and speed. By the way, I've never taken the time to review a product before but felt strongly enough about this one to put in a good word. I have been a long and loyal Makita patron. I purchased this kit so that I wouldn't have the kind of problems found in other tools, paying a premium for a Makita product. After light residential use one of the batteries failed. Then I read the fine print that, while the tools are warrantied for 3 years, the batteries are good for only a year. I checked the Makita website. They've removed the option to even send them an email. I called them and was told to pound sand. I looked at the review for the batteries, BL1830, and see that there is a known design flaw (?) causing these batteries to fail prematurely. It's too bad that Makita has chose to start making throwaway tools, but this battery failure and Makita's complete and total unwillingness to acknowledge let alone fix the problem puts them in their tools in the same class as Ryobi or B&D. The tools themselves were fine until they became paper weights. Look for a company with a better battery warranty or that will actually fix a problem. - By Crash


This set of tools is a great bargain. With the rebate I was sent the Makita oscillating multitool that works with the 18v batteries from the set. I am very impressed with the power of these tools. It's hard to believe they are battery operated. They make my old Ryobi set look like toys. These were bought to replace my Dewalt set that was destroyed by Super storm Sandy.( Both the Ryobi and Dewalt sets were destroyed, the Dewalt set was a gift and I really liked them.) I personally like the way these feel a little better than the Dewalt set. That is only my personal preference. The Dewalt set was a very nice set too. I like the balance of the Makita hammer drill and the reciprocating saw slightly better than the Dewalt. Only the test of time will tell. After too many years of unsatisfactory results with yellow and gray sidewinder circular saws, I decided I deserved a good worm drive saw. All the reviews of the Skilsaw were pretty positive, and I liked the idea that Bosch had continued making such an old design with limited changes. First use was a revelation, As many have noted, the saw tracks very well, and following a line is no longer a WAG as with a sidewinder. Some other handy features are the depth markings on the shoe adjuster, the folding hanger hook, and even the sole plate has been thoughtfully dimensioned to 1 1/2" on one side of the blade and 3 1/2" on the other. Can you say, "Standard 2 x 4 size"?
In spite of light alloy usage, this a heavy machine. I suppose the weight is something of an advantage as the power output is substantial. It amazes me to see videos of pros using this tool with one hand on framing jobs at scary heights. I've used it once, on an approximately 2.5" thick concrete slab with an inexpensive Skil diamond blade. I made 2 cuts about 3' each and it did the job no problem, a big job for me in what it actually achieved. I was gonna rent a Makita 14" concrete saw but the price was more than buying this brand new with blade. I used the laser and aimed it at a ruler marker laid on the slab and the cut was quite straight I must say. I've got more concrete I'll have to cut and I'm confident it can be dealt with even if I have to use a sledge hammer. - By S. Anderson

I have been using this model saw for roughly 20 years and have been a fan of Dewalt tools for about the same length of time. As a finish carpenter it had a lot of features that I liked and has proven rather durable. It seemed that I had finally given the current one enough abuse so I picked up a new one. I needed it for doing precision work on a cabinet project. Although the manual stated that all of the adjustments had been set at the factory, upon removing it from the box I double checked because of the accuracey I need. First the bevel angle would not zero by more than a degree, and then I discovered the sole plate was warped and while one rail was parallel to the blade the other was not. This makes the saw completely useless for my needs and to a certain extent if the blade can't be made parellel to a cutting guide this could cause dangerous binding. First Black and Decker bought Porter Cable and has made it a mediocre product and I fear they are taking the good name of Dewalt there too. Perhaps this was just a lone bad one, but just comparing the quality of the sole plate with the one on my current saw, which I replaced a few years ago, I see a difference there. - By Luminosity

These are shipped covered in oil, which pretty much means that they know the tools can rust. Why not just chrome them so that isn't an issue? However these tools are far better than another set I bought in the past and with reasonable care will probably last a lifetime.
